NICE, FRANCE

I like to tease Kesh about growing up in the country and far from the beaches. She didn't really. The Hills district in Sydney is less than an hour to the ocean but to me, that feels like forever.

I grew up in four or five houses, all within minutes of the beaches on the Central Coast of NSW.

In the time Kesh and I have been married, we've already bought and sold twice and are in our third home now. All of them close by the sea.

She's a beautiful creature - the deep blue. She's pulled Kesh and Roo hard and her touch is something we all feel better for. It's something we all crave. And while Nice isn't really my kinda place (a few too many humans and buildings for my ideal spot), the call of the blue was loud. The two weeks without immersing our bodies and getting our fill felt like forever.

We took the lazy option and ate Big Mac's on the promenade, before gingerly stepping across the rocky shore. She was fresh but I didn't mind and Roo sure didn't, either. He was just happy to be somewhere familiar.

  2. I love that third one down; beautiful colours.

The Cote d'Azur is a place close to my heart. We will be there in a fortnight, and I just can't wait. Been thinking about it so much these past few days and your pictures have made my yearning even stronger.

    Happy travels x

  3. Hey Tim,
I live here ! I didn't know that you where coming to Nice, did you see Cannes or Antibes (where Zela fitzgerald, Hemingway, Pablo Picasso spent time)?? it's just near like less than 40 minutes and it's also stunning !
I hope that you spend great time ! Did you shot for work there ?
Happy travels around this beautiful world !!

  5. the photos are gorgeous! it has always been my dream to live close to the ocean. I live in austria, the closest ocean spot is in northern italy, at least 4 hours of sleep and the adria there is always really dirty. buuut I won't give up on that dream, we'll see!

  6. I was in Nice a few years ago and your photographs are making me all sorts of nostalgic (it was a pivotal time, the cusp of adulthood as the first real independent holiday for myself and my best friend!)…even though I agree with you about the people and buildings!

  7. the ocean is one of the most beautiful sights in the entire world. the color of sky & sea are my favorites -- cannot WAIT to see it in person someday. :)

  8. I adored Nice, we were there in September last year.

Like you, I grew up always a 10min walk from the ocean, but sadly now - living in the Inner West of Sydney, it is slightly more difficult to venture down to the water. I ache for it at times, so whenever I can - I just go. Sit and watch. I don't even need to swim. As long as I can hear the beautiful sounds, that is enough to put me at peace...

  12. Oh I would love to visit Nice...I love how the beaches in France and Italy too are covered in pebbles not soft sand like in Australia....it takes for an interesting hobble into the water! As always...lovely images...that Kesh..phwah! Beautiful x

  16. I love the B&W photo the best but oh............how I don't understand how a beach has bumpy rocks instead of soft sand under toe being an Australian. When in Greece the place looks amazing but you are tippy toeing across uncomfortable rocks to get to the water only to find more uncomfortable rocks to stand on. We are so lucky our beaches have SAND and lots of SAND. Glad to see you guys are unwinding even on rocky beaches. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia (ps I'm booked in your August 10 workshop in Melbourne)

  19. Beautiful. I grew up near the ocean, too, and now I live 2 hours away, and feel the lack of the sea in my life.
